The Bourne Legacy (2012)

Huippusuosittujen Medusa-elokuvien sarja jatkuu uudessa toimintatrillerissä Medusan perintö. Jason Bournen seikkailujen elokuvaversioiden käsikirjoittaja Tony Gilroy laajentaa Robert Ludlumin luomaa maailmaa kokonaan uudella tarinalla. Pääosassa esitellään uusi sankari, jota näyttelee Oscar-ehdokkaanakin ollut, uuden sukupolven toimintatähti Jeremy Renner (mm. Mission: Impossible 4, The Avengers, The Hurt Locker). Medusan maailmaan joutuvan agentin (Renner) tarinassa panoksina ovat elämä ja kuolema, ja taustalla vaikuttavat kolmen ensimmäisen Medusa-elokuvien tapahtumat.

Medusan perintö tuo Jeremy Rennerin ohella sarjaan uusiksi tähdiksi Rachel Weiszin, Edward Nortonin, Stacy Keachin ja Oscar Isaacin. Tutuissa rooleissaan nähdään Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn ja Scott Glenn.

Meduusan perintö jatkaa tyylikkäästi Bourne leffojen sarjaa, vaikka kyse ei olekkaan alkuperäisestä Bourne tarinasta. Ehkä hieman yllättäen hypätään pois Ludlumin kirjojen tarinoista, vaikka tarinoita olisi vielä ollut filmattavaksi. Miksi sitten ei uskallettu vaihtaa näyttelijää Matt Damonin tilalle tämän toisen tunnetun J.B. agentin näyttelijänä on arvoitus. Onhan se onnistnut monesti James Bondinkin kohdalla viimeisten 50 vuoden aikana, eikä loppua näy. Ihan hienosti tarina kuitenkin jatkaa alkuperäisten hengessä ja toimintaa ja vauhtia riittää vaikka pariinkin elokuvaan. Elokuvan alkua olisi kuitenkin ehkä voinut hieman tiivistää ja keskittyä enemmän ajojahtiin, nyt tarina tuntuu loppuvan ennen aikojaan. Elokuva on täynnä hienoja tähtiä ja Renner pääroolissa vetää osansa kunniakkasti loppuun asti. Toivottavasti näitä saadaan vielä lisää ja toivottavasti uskalletaan palata Ludlumin alkuperäisiin tarinoihin. Kyllä sille Matt Damonille tuuraaja löytyy, jos niin halutaan. Hieno agenttiseikkailu uutta Bondia odotellessa.

The events in this movie take place around the same time as the events in The Bourne Ultimatum. When a British reporter was writing an expose about Black Ops operations Treadstone and Black Briar, and the ones responsible for them are concerned. And when Jason Bourne, former Treadstone operative got the file on Treadstone and Black Briar and gave it to Pamela Landy who then passed it to the media. When the men behind Treadstone and Black Briar learn of this, they’re concerned how this will affect other ops they have. They decide it’s best to shut down all ops and make sure make everyone involved disappears. They try to take out Aaron Cross who is part of another op called Outcome, but he manages to survive. He then seeks out Dr. Marta Shearing who worked on him when he began. It seems part of the program is for all subjects to take medications but he has run out, which is why he seeks her. But someone tries to kill her. He saves her and she tells him, he should have stopped taking the…

Bourne legacy is a stylish sequel to Bourne movies though it is not real Jason Bourne story. It is a small surprise that they didn’t follow the original saga because there are still many original Bourne stories untold. Why didn’t they simply change actor after Matt Damon refused to make anoteher Bourne Movie? It has been done well with great success with another J.B. (James Bond) agent last 50 years. After all the movie is a stylish agent movie to this saga. Mabye the beginning of the movie is too slowly and the story feels to come to end before it starts it’s action. Movie is full of great actors and Renner himself makes his role bautifully. I hope there will be more of these movies and I hope they dare to go back to original Ludlum stories. There must be a actor who can replace Matt Damon. Great agent-action movie to watch while we wait the next James Bond movie later this fall.
