Imaginaerum (2012)

>Maailmanlaajuisesti odotettu Nightwishin Imaginaerum on musiikkifantasia, joka henkii David Lynchin, Neil Gaimanin ja Cirque du Soleilin maailmoja. Elokuva on innovatiivinen yhdistelmä tarinaa ja musiikkia, eriskummallinen kertomus mielikuvituksen voimasta ja siitä, mikä elämässä on loppujen lopuksi tärkeintä.

Kanadassa kuvatun ja valmistuneen fantasiaelokuvan on ohjannut Stobe Harju ja tuottanut Solar Films. Imaginaerumin rooleissa esiintyvät myös Nightwishin jäsenet.

Tarina pohjautuu Nightwishin voimahahmo Tuomas Holopaisen villiin visioon, joka syntyi vuonna 2007 Dark Passion Play -albumin jälkimainingeissa: “Tuumin tapoja viedä bändin jo valtavan kunnianhimoiseksi ja rönsyileväksi paisunutta ilmaisutapaa edelleen seuraavalle tasolle, ja tällöin syntyi halu kertoa rakkaudella ja pieteetillä valmisteltu tarina.

Imaginaerum on visuaalisesti kaunis, mutta tarinaltaan tyhjäpäiväinen elokuva. Myöskään Nightwishin musiikki ei yllä parhaimilleensa, eikä vähiten Anette Olzonin ansiosta. Siinä missä Tarja Turunen oli klassinen sopraano Anette on vain tylsä sopraano. Onneksi tähänkin tilanteeseen sittemmin on tullut päivitys ja toivottavasti bändin uusi solisti jatkaa bändin keulassa vielä pitkään. Elokuvan käsikirjoitukseen olisi kannattanut kiinnittää paljon enemmän huomiota, nyt luotetaan liikaa tietokonegrafiikkaan ja Nightwishin musiikkiin. Harmi ettei kumpikaan ole täydessä terässä, eikä bändin biisit nose lähellekkään bändin klassisia hittejä. Sinänsä harmi, sillä elokuva tuskin tällaisenaan ei suuria yleisöjä puhuttele.

Imaginaerum tells the story of an elderly composer, Tom, who suffers from severe dementia. As he has had the disease for years and has regressed into childhood, he remembers practically nothing from his adult life. His music, friends, all his past including the memory of his daughter are a blur in his fragile mind. All he has left is the imagination of a ten year old boy. As he drifts away into coma, it seems impossible to get back what he has lost. Or is it? The film is a journey between two different dimensions. Tom travels through his imaginary world seeking answers and finding memories, while his daughter, Gem, tries to recover the bond she had once shared with her father in the real world. As they have become more and more distant from each other over the years, and as there’s even greater obstacles separating them now Tom’s coma and his imminent death Gem’s project feels doomed to failure. However, through Tom’s darkest secrets, Gem discovers the path she must follow in order to.

Imaginaerum is visually beautiful, but poor and empty as a story. Even the Nightwish’s music isn’t as good as it could be, thanks for Anette Olzon. Tarja Turunen were great clsssic soprano, but Anette is just boring soprano. Thanfully there is no Anette anymore at the band and they now have new classic soprano singer as their soloist, hopefully she stay with band for good. The script of the movie is so poor and the makers rely too much for the music and CGI. It’s too bad that neighter is as best as it should, like this the movie hardly get wide audience.
