Life of Pi 3D (2012)

>Brokeback Mountain ja Hiipivä tiikeri, piilotettu lohikäärme -elokuvien ohjaaja Ang Lee on luonut valkokankaille ensimmäisen 3D-elokuvansa – visuaalisesti henkeäsalpaavan ja kauniin Piin elämän.

Taianomainen elokuva kertoo nuoren intialaispojan uskomattomasta selviytymisestä meren armoilla, ja matkasta, josta tulee hänen elämänsä suurin seikkailu. Haaksirikkoutuneena hän muodostaa ainutlaatuisen ja odottamattoman yhteyden toisen selviytyjän – hurjan Bengalin tiikerin – kanssa.

Piin elämä tuo väkisin mieleen James Cameronin Avatar-elokuvan. Sadunomaisen kaunis ja värikylläinen fantasia hemmottelee näköhermoja. 3D:n kekseliäs ja hieno käyttö tuo tarinaan hienoa syvyyttä, meren ulapan yksinäisyyden saattaa tuntea iholla. Yksi ero Piin elämässä kuitenkin Avatareen verrattuna on, Piin elämä on sarjakuvamaiseen Avatareen verattuna tuhat kertaa realistisempi huolimatta elokuvan tarinan mahdottomuudesta. Elokuvan loistava värikylläisyys ja upean hienosti digitoitu tiikeri on visuaalisuudessaan todella upeaa katsottavaa. Ainoa, mikä tarinassa häiritsee on jatkuva puhe jumalasta ja uskosta. Toisaalta sen ymmärtää, kun kyseessä on itseään ja uskontoaan etsivä Intialaispoika, mutta minulle tällainen tuputtaminen tuntuu kuitenkin turhauttavalta. Piin elämä voisi olla tuskastuttavan tylsä, mutta Ang Leen käsissä elokuvasta sukeutuu loistava selviytymistarina ja tarina ympäristön pakottamasta ystävyydestä ja uhrautumisesta, itkuhan siinä tulee, ei auta. Hieno, uskomaton kaunis ja liikuttava tarina, joka on toteutettu upean visuaalisesti. 3D:n käyttö on hienovaraista mutta se kyllä puoltaa itseänsä näin visuaalisessa elokuvassa.

In Canada, a writer visits the Indian storyteller Pi Patel and asks him to tell his life story. Pi tells the story of his childhood in Pondicherry, India, and the origin of his nickname. One day, his father, a zoo owner, explains that the municipality is no longer supporting the zoo and he has hence decided to move to Canada, where the animals the family owns would also be sold. They board on a Japanese cargo ship with the animals and out of the blue, there is a storm, followed by a shipwrecking. Pi survives in a lifeboat with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a male Bengal tiger nicknamed Richard Parker. They are adrift in the Pacific Ocean, with aggressive hyena and Rickard Parker getting hungry. Pi needs to find a way to survive.

Somehow Life of Pi feels like James Cameron’s Avatar. Beautiful and colourful fantasy looks brilliant. Clever and descreet use of 3D brings more depth to this story. You can almost feel the loneliness of vast ocean. If it feels like Avatar there is a one big diffrence to it, Life of Pi feels thousand times more realistic than comic-look like Avatar. Colourful movie and incredible realistic digitalised tiger is visually beautiful to watch. Only one thing disturbance me in this movie, it’s constant talk about god and religious. Somehow you can understand that, when Pi is looking for himself and his religious, but for me it is just too much. Life of Pi could be a very boring movie, but in the hands of Ang Lee it is a beutiful and great survival story. Story of unexpected frienship and sacrifice what is has to happen because of cruel and hostile enviroment. It brings tears to your eyes and you can’t help it. Visually beautiful and colourful movie with fine and nice 3D.
