Edge of Tomorrow sijoittuu lähitulevaisuuteen, jossa avaruusolennot ovat tehneet Maahan rajun hyökkäyksen, jota maailman mitkään sotavoimat eivät voi pysäyttää.
Everstiluutnantti Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) on upseeri, joka ei ole koskaan ollut mukana taistelussa, mutta silti hänet lähetetään tylysti suorittamaan hengenvaarallista tehtävää. Cage saa pian surmansa, mutta huomaa olevansa eräänlaisessa selittämättömässä aikaluupissa, joka pakottaa hänet elämään tuon armottoman taistelun ja kuoleman yhä uudestaan… ja uudestaan.
Taistelu taistelulta Cage pystyy kuitenkin kasvattamaan taitojaan yhdessä erikoisjoukkojen sotilaan Rita Vrataskin (Emily Blunt) kanssa. Niinpä Cagen ja Ritan käydessä taistoon kerta toisensa jälkeen, he etenevät vääjäämättä lähemmäs vihollisen kukistamista.
Tarina on periaatteessa sekoitus Starships Troopers- ja Päiväni murmelina -elokuvia, mutta se toimii. Aluksi pelkäsin, että samojen kohtauksien toisto voisi tuntua puuduttavalta, mutta ei. 51- vuotias Tom Cruise on sopiva valinta toimintarymistelyn päätähdeksi. Välillä näytetään kuinka hän opettelee ulkoa vihollisen liikkeet ja selviää niistä seuraavalla kerralla, vähän kuin videopelissä. Ensimmäiset yritykset päättyvät katsojaa naurattaviin surkuhupaisiin kuolemiin. Joissakin kohtauksissa on selvää, että tapahtumat on koettu jo kymmeniä, ellei satoja kertoja, mutta Cage ei paljasta tätä muille ihmisille. Ne kerrat, jolloin hän yrittää selittää muille mitä on tapahtumassa, johtavat siihen että häntä pidetään umpihulluna. Käsikirjoittajilla on selvästi ollut hauskaa kirjoittaessan käsikirjoitusta. Elokuvassa leikitellään tarinalla ja vedätetään katsojaa miettimään mikä on todellisuutta ja mikä ei. Nopea rytmitys ja tarinan kuljetus toimii loistavasti. Ohjaaja Doug Liman välttää toiston käyttämällä sekä nokkelia tiivistyksiä että aikarakenteeseen liittyvää sisäsyntyistä huumoria. Suurin osa aikamatkailuun liittyvistä loogisista kysymyksistä saa tarinassa vastauksen, ja loput peittyvät viihdyttävän seikkailun alle. Mutta kuten niin monesti 3D ei toimi ja vaikutta lähinnä turhalta. Tuntuu, kuin Hollywoodissa ei olisi enää yhtään taidokasta kameramiestä, joka osaisi käyttää hyväkseen 3D:tä ja loisi hienoja kuva-ajoja kankaalle. Vai onko elokuvien ohjakset niin tiukasti ohjaajien käsissä, ettei kuvaajat voi käyttää omaa luovuttaan. Jos näin, niin harmi. 3D:llä olisi paljon enemmän annettavaa, kuin pelkkä sterografinen kuva. Siitä syystä on taas pakko pudotta pisteitä, muuten niin lähes täydelliseltä kesäelokuvalta. Jos tämän olisi katsonut 2D:nä olisi voinut tuloksena olla täydet viisi tähteä, nyt ”vain” neljä.

A soldier fighting in a war with aliens finds himself caught in a time loop of his last day in the battle, though he becomes better skilled along the way.
The story is basically a mix of Starships Troopers and Groundhog Day movies, but it works. At first, I was afraid that the same repeat of the scenes could seem tedious, but did not. 51 – year old Tom Cruise is an appropriate choice for the man brought effect rumble. Between shows how he is learning by heart of the enemy movement and survives the next time, a bit like a video game. The first attempts to terminate a crowd laugh tragicomic death. In some scenes, it is clear that the events have been experienced for many decades, if not hundreds of times, but Cage did not disclose this to other people. Those times when he tries to explain to others what is happening, will result in that he is being really crazy. The writer has clearly been a lot of fun to this by writing a script. The film plays with the story and foul play spectators to think about what is real and what is not. Fast rhythm and the story of transportation is excellent. Director Doug Liman to avoid repetition, and clever use of sealing and time associated with the structure inherent humor. Most of the time travel of logical answers to questions are to be in the story, and the rest are covered under an entertaining adventure. But as is so often the 3D does not work and impressive, mainly pointless. I feel like Hollywood would not be any more elaborate camera man who could make use of 3D and create some great runs up the silver screen. Or is the film over the reins so tightly in the hands of directors that photographers can’t use their own to artistic knowledge. If so, then it’s too bad. 3D could have been much more to offer than just a stereographic images. Therefore, it is once again forced to dropping points, an otherwise almost perfect summer movie. If this should be viewed in 2D could lead to a full five stars, now with ”only” four.
