Rio 3D (orig) 2011

Ice Age -elokuvien tekijöiden uusi koko perheen 3D-animaatioseikkailu, jonka tapahtumapaikkana nähdään värikylläinen ja hyväntuulinen Rio De Janeiro. Elokuvan pääosassa nähdään sympaattinen ja hieman arka papukaija nimeltään Blu, joka joutuu yllättävien tapahtumien jälkeen keskelle elämänsä suurinta seikkailua kaupungin valmistautuessa vuoden suurimpaan tapahtumaan – Rion karnevaaleihin. Elokuvan muissa rooleissa ovat mukaansatempaava musiikki, erilaisten eläinten esittämät huikeat tanssinumerot sekä väriloistoa säteilevä Rio De Janeiro.

Rio on hauska ja häkellyttävän kaunis ja värikäs elokuva. Vaikka tarina on helppo ja selkeästi tehty enemmän viihdyttämään lapsikatsojia, toimii elokuva aikuisillekkin hauskana ja viihdyttävänä tarinana. Itse olin pari vuotta sitten käymässä Rio De Janeirossa ja hämmästyin miten pikkutarkasti elouvassa Rio on animoitu. Kaikki näyttää animoituna yhtä upealta ja värikkäältä, kuin aidossakin ympäristössä. Kun Rioa kuvataan illan hämärtyessä korkealta vuoren reunalta näyttä se yhtä upealta, kuin itse katselin sokeritoppavuorelta hämärtyvää tropiikkia ja Ipaneman valoja, upeaa. Tarinassa kerrotaan myös Rion synkemmästä puolesta, katulapsista ja trooppisten eläinten salakuljetuksesta ja siihen liittyvästä rikollisuudesta. Jos näitä asioita olisi käsitelty hieman vakavammin olisi Rio ollut täydellinen elokuvaelämys, mutta kyllä se tällaisenaankin neljä tähteä ansaitsee : )

In Rio de Janeiro, baby macaw, Blu, is captured by dealers and smuggled to the USA. While driving through Moose Lake, Minnesota, the truck that is transporting Blu accidentally drops Blu’s box on the road. A girl, Linda, finds the bird and raises him with love. Fifteen years later, Blu is a domesticated and intelligent bird that does not fly and lives a comfortable life with bookshop owner Linda. Out of the blue, clumsy Brazilian ornithologist, Tulio, visits Linda and explains that Blu is the last male of his species, and he has a female called Jewel in Rio de Janeiro. He invites Linda to bring Blu to Rio so that he and Jewel can save their species. Linda travels with Blu and Tulio to Rio de Janeiro and they leave Blu and Jewel in a large cage in the institute where Tulio works. While they are having dinner, smugglers break into the institute and steal Blu and Jewel to sell them. Linda and Tulio look everywhere for Blu, who is chained to Jewel and hidden in a slum.

Rio is a fun and strikingly beautiful and colorful film. Although the story is simple and clearly done more to entertain the child viewers, the film is a fun and entertaining story even for adults. In fact, I was a couple of years ago visiting Rio De Janeiro, and was amazed at how meticulously Rio is animated. Everything looks great as an animated and vivid, than the aidossakin environment. When Rio describes the height of the mountain at dusk from the edge, it seems as great, as you watched the Sugarloaf darkening the tropics and Ipanema lights, fantastic. The story also explains the Rio bleaker, street children, and tropical animal smuggling and related crime. If these issues should be dealt with a little more serious to Rio was the perfect movie experience, but yes it on to the four-star worthy:)
