Elokuvassa 5. aalto neljä toinen toistaan hurjempaa hyökkäysaaltoa on pyyhkäissyt tuhoisasti maapallon yli. Maailmassa, jota hallitsevat pelko ja epäluottamus, pakomatkalla oleva Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) yrittää epätoivoisesti pelastaa pikkuveljensä. Valmistautuessaan väistämättömään ja lopullisesti kaikesta selvää tekevään 5. aaltoon, Cassie yhdistää voimansa erään nuoren miehen kanssa, josta voi muodostua hänen viimeinen toivonsa – jos nuorukaiseen vain voi luottaa.

The 5th Wave voisi olla ihan hyvä elokuva. Ainakin trailerin perusteella odotin huomattavasti parempaa. Itse elokuva on melkoinen pettymys. Tarina on nähty eri muodossa jo useammassakin elokuvassa. Elokuvan pääpari on melko epäsuhtainen ja heidän suhteensa kammottavan epäaito. Kemia ei oikein kohtaa. Lisäksi kymmenen vuotiaiden mesoaminen aikuisten mallin mukaan armeijan koviksina on lähinnä vaivaannuttavaa katsottavaa. Tällaiset Alien invasion elokuvat voivat parhaimmillaan olla kovinkin viihdyttäviä, mutta tässä mennään kyllä kaikkie rimojen alta. Kai tässä on haettu jotain Nälkäpelin ja Twilight elokuvien jatkumoa, mutta taso jää lähinnä jälkimmäisten katastrofien tasolle. Käsikirjoitus ei nerokkuudellaan rasita, eikä näyttelijäsuorituksista ole paljon parempaa sanottavaa. Elokuva on selkeästi tehty elokuvasarjan avaajaksi, mutta pahoin pelkään, ettei tälle tulla jatkoa näkemään. On harmi, että elokuvan tekijät aliarvioivat nuorta yleisöä niin pahasti, että tällaista ”Twilight tuotantoa” päästetään markkinoille. Parempi käsikirjoitus, uskottavammat näyttelijät ja vähän lisää omaperäisyyttä olisi kaivannut. The 5th Wave ei kyllä mielestäni ole elokuvalipun arvoinen esitys, tosin en ole varma, kannattaako tätä tuotosta edes dvd:nä hankkia. Ehkä sitten, kun se tulee televisiosta voi siihen pari tuntia aikaa hukata.

The 5th Wave could be much better movie. At least I hoped so, when I saw the movie trailer of it. But the movie was great disappointment. The story has been told so many time in different movies and way much better too. Main characters were awful choice and there were no chemistry between them at all. If the story was many times seen and bad the movie went corny at least when the army of ten year old kids showed up. It was vain, lame and mostly embarrassed. These alien invasion movies can sometimes be very entertaining, but this movie was everything but that. Maybe they tried to mix Twilight movies and Hunger Games together, but the conclusion was even more lame, than best of the Twilight movies. (was there one?) Script is so stupid and the actors are just so bad in what they do. Movie is clearly made to start a new movie franchise, but my best guess is that there wont be another movie on this series. It is deplorable, that movie makers let this kind of shit out to movie markets. It would be best to release this nonsense straight to dvd. It is not worth to pay the price of a movie ticket although I am not sure if it is worth of dvd. Maybe it is better to watch from television, if you wan to waste couple of hours time to it.
