Free ClipartHollywood 1927. George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) on mykkäfilmien tähti, jonka ura uhkaa tyssätä äänielokuvan nousuun. Samaan aikaan nuori ekstra Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo) on nousemassa tähtiin ja suureen suosioon. Heidän kohtalonsa kietoutuvat yhteen elokuva-alan myllerryksessä.

The Artist voitti 5 Oscar-palkintoa: paras elokuva, ohjaus (Michel Hazanavicius), miespääosa (Jean Dujardin), puvustus sekä alkuperäismusiikki.

Siinä missä Hugo oli loistava kunnianosoitus Amerikkalaiselta elokuvantekijältä eurooppalaiselle elokuvalla on The Artist hieno kumarrus euroopan suunnasta amerikkalaisen elokuvan historialle.

ClipartOutside a movie premiere, enthusiastic fan Peppy Miller literally bumps into the swashbuckling hero of the silent film, George Valentin. The star reacts graciously and Peppy plants a kiss on his cheek as they are surrounded by photographers. The headlines demand: ”Who’s That Girl?” and Peppy is inspired to audition for a dancing bit-part at the studio. However as Peppy slowly rises through the industry, the introduction of talking-pictures turns Valentin’s world upside-down.

______________

While Hugo was a great tribute to the American filmmaker European film The Artist is a great bow in the direction of European American film history. I just had to compare the two Oscar winner to each other and to the comparison , this is slightly worse than Hugo . Of course this is brilliant in its own way and often insightful and touchful too . Jean Dujardin is worth for his Oscar with wide smile, but otherwise the film does not quite Hugo’s level above. I understand very well why this is the Film Academy to mind , but I criticized the film in such a way how I took it. I think the film does not quite reach its dramatic level for which it was intended. The character will not only identify with in the same way , and it does not reach out to fans in the same way as the sound film making . Although the film is a great tribute to the silent movie , and even if it is a fun loppurepliikissään humorously sums up the story and the reason why the transition to sound film Valentin for it is impossible , I think the end result will be only partially successful . However, I want to give the same rating for The Artist , I gave Hugollekkin simple paper recycling and the reason that I do not dare to criticize more , even if it is just in my mind I was wondering . Just a great movie experience , however , if you can have a look at a completely open mind .
